Summer Camps & Opportunities

The University of Tulsa

The University of Tulsa offers residential screenwriting and filmmaking camps for high school students. They will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the art and craft of screenwriting and filmmaking for one exciting week each. The camps may be taken separately or together.

June 4-8, 2018 - Academy for Pianists Application
The University of Tulsa 2018 Academy for Pianists is open to intermediate to advanced level piano students, grades 9-12. Students will work with TU piano faculty and attend seminars, workshops and presentations designed to equip pianists with the necessary skills for a career in music, or to simply enrich their lives through music performance and informed listening. The 2018 camp will feature guest artists, Danny and DeAnna Calhoun.

July 8-14, 2018 - Summer Jazz Camp Application 
The educational focus of the camp will be based on a curriculum encompassing jazz theory & ear training, jazz improvisation, jazz history, jazz performance (big band, combo, guitar ensemble, vocal), and group lessons and master classes. Open to all students 9th grade through college.

July 30-August 3, 2018 - Vocal & Choral Camp Application
This 5-day summer camp is for high school-aged singers who love vocal and choral music. TU vocal faculty along with guest artists will guide students in the preparation of classical solos appropriate for auditions and contests as well as in semi-staged operatic scenes. The choral portion will feature choral repertoire selected for this camp, including All-State mixed choral music preparation for the coming academic year.


July 8-14, 2018 – Screenwriting Camp Application
The Screenwriting Camp with Professor Michael Wright provides an intensive exploration of the craft of screenwriting along with stimulating group activities and film screenings. Students will create their own short screenplays that will be read for family and friends in a script festival on the last day.


July 14-21, 2018 – Filmmaking Camp Application
The Filmmaking Camp with videographer Erin McHenry provides students with the opportunity to fully plunge into every aspect of creating short films, along with evening screenings and exciting group activities. The camp will culminate in a film festival of the students’ work, screened for family and friends. Cameron Buckley (BA ’14) will serve as an additional instructor.

Residential Camps

Days are spent in a workshop setting, with planned evening activities arranged for recreation and further exploration of film. Participants must stay on campus in a supervised residence hall during the camp; rooms are shared (males and females are housed on separate floors). Each camp has a full-time, qualified student assistant staying with the students in the residence.


Society of American Military Engineers 2018 Engineering and Construction Camps

San Antonio Post Society of American Military Engineers (SAME) is taking applications to sponsor (SAME covers costs) high school students to go to one of the military academies for an engineering and construction camp for a week in the summer.  Feel free to contact Kit C. Tulsa Undergraduate Research Challenge (TURC)

This program enables undergraduates to take challenging courses and conduct advanced research with the guidance of top TU professors. Students are able to participate in this program the summer BEFORE their freshman year at TU. Its aim is to create leaders in scholarship, research and public life. Specifically, the program emphasizes undergraduate research and community involvement. The TURC Junior Scholar Program allows high school juniors to participate in cutting-edge research projects over the summer.

The 55th Annual Texas Farm Bureau Youth Leadership Conference 

June 11-15, 2018 – Youth Leadership Conference Application
All information about the Conference can be found on the Texas Farm Bureau website under the Youth Opportunities page linked above. The fee for the conference remains $160 per student, which includes charter bus transportation. Online registration will be available on March 23, 2018. The deadline for students to register is May 4, 2018.

Smithsonian Latino Center Young Ambassadors Program

June 24-August 2, 2018 - Young Ambassadors Program Flyer
Gain professional experience, network with Latino leaders, hone your leadership skills, and get involved in your community this summer. Apply for the Young Ambassadors Program and become part of a network of young Latino leaders making a difference in their community! Graduating high school seniors with a commitment to the arts, sciences, or humanities as it pertains to Latino communities.

Week-long, all expenses paid training and leadership seminar and a four-week internship with a $2,000 program stipend in Washington, DC and internships in 17 cities across the US and Puerto Rico.
